Rāhina Hauora

Well being Mondays

Growing our understanding of wellbeing through nurturing our community with lived experience of homelessness

In 2018 we blessed the Pou at Griffiths Gardens to establish the project Te Puawai o te Kakano - The Blossoming Seed to represent a shared vision of Te Awhina Mai Tatou Katoa and For the Love of Bees to establish a place in the city for the sharing of Rongoā knowledge. The garden was blessed by Mana Whenua o Tamāki Makaurau Iwi—Ngāti Whātua ki Orakei.

In 2019 Rāhina Hauora was our last new project run in Griffiths Gardens & Pā Rongorongo, a community led-initiative held every Monday for four months that integrated Maramataka, Māra kai, Whanaungatanga and was informed by Matauranga Māori that brought our shared vision to life.

Hauora Rāhina was launched on the 8th of April, sometimes gathering up to 80 participants engaging with te ao māori, connecting with the whenua and how maramataka influences our daily lives. There was sharing of karakia, stories, waiata, kai and light healing with our inner-city community, led by Grayson Goffe from Awhina Mai, Kayla Reihana from Clendon Pride, Kelly Francis from Whenua Warrior, the Mahikari Community, Housing First, The City Mission, Splice and enabled by the Auckland Design Office. With an average of 60 participants each week this pilot provided a joyous contribution to our city life.

Kelly Francis of Whenua Warrior organised a series of interviews about Rāhina Hauora to be filmed which you can see here.
Oscar Perress from BFM’s show Community Garden interviews the team behind Rāhina Hauora in a two part interview. Click here to listen to part one and part two.

Thank you to everyone who contributed these warming, fun and supportive days!
